What Information Should You Collect at Class Registration?
A good class registration form is short enough to finish on a phone and complete enough to help you prepare. Every question should have a reason tied to safety, logistics, communication, or the attendee experience.
Start with the basics
Collect the attendee’s name and a reliable way to send confirmation and reminders. If the person is booking for a group, make it clear whether you need information for each attendee or only the person making the booking.
Ask class-specific questions
Include questions that genuinely affect the session: experience level, accessibility needs, equipment requirements, dietary information, or a preferred format. Explain why you are asking sensitive questions and who will use the answers.
Keep optional details optional
Do not make marketing preferences, social handles, or extra background required unless the class truly depends on them. Fewer required fields reduce abandonment and make the form feel respectful.
Tell people what happens next
Add a short note about confirmation timing, preparation, and how to update an answer. A clear attendee FAQ can answer common questions without expanding the form.
Review your questions after every few sessions. If you never use an answer, remove it. If instructors repeatedly need information after booking, add one well-worded field rather than starting another message thread.
